With all of the hoopla surrounding Oliver Perez, the burden to pitch well has fallen squarely on John Maine's broad shoulders.
His season numbers to date have not been great...

But there is a ray of hope.
First off, John Maine is one tough son of a bitch. Every Met fan knows that no player is more into the game or tough on themselves than Maine.
Second, he had a very solid start in his last outing. 6 innings of 1-hit ball against a tough Marlin club, and his fastball was full of life.
Tonight Maine aims to build on that start against the Braves. He will once again feature his fastball early and build off of that.
If all goes according to plan, John Maine can once again establish himself as a solid middle of the rotation starter capable of outstanding games when his club needs him most.
For those that have forgotten, the man can pitch.....really pitch.
