Okay…
I’ll continue the search for the next Mets starter.
To remind you of the process, we look at the worst win-loss record so far in the league, and try to find the small market teams that might consider dumping salary at the all-star break.
Oh… you want a starter before the all-star break? Sorry Charlie, you reap what you sow.
Anyway, we passed on Washington, and decided that Cliff Lee is the guy the Mets should go after on Cleveland.
Washington has seven wins… Cleveland now has ten… and Oakland has only nine, so we need to take a look at them:
Dallas Braden – 3-2, 2.10 – 25 years old - 1yr., 410K
Brett Anderson – 0-3, 5.79 – 21 years old – 1 yr., 400K
Trevor Cahill – 0-2, 4.50 – 21 years old – 1 yr., 400K
Dana Everland – 1-2, 7.40 – 25 years old – 1 yr., 410K
Josh Outman - 0-0, 4.41 – 24 years old – 1 yr., 400K
There’s no salary to dump here so we’ll move on (boy, does this team suck…)
Next up… Baltimore… team salary: 67mil - 10 wins:
Jeremy Guthrie – 2-2, 5.06 – 30 yrs. old – 1 yr., 650K
Koji Uehara – 2-2, 4.50 – 34 yrs-old – 2009: 5mil – 2010: 5mil
Adam Eaton – 1-3, 7.18 – 31 yrs-old – 2009: 8.5mil – 2010: 9mil (0.5mil team buyout)
Mark Hendrickson – 1-4, 5.79 – turning 25 – 1 yr., 1.5mil
Brad Bergesen – 1-0, 5.17 – 23 yrs. old – 1 yr., 400K
Okay, I’m sure Koji is untouchable, so then there’s Adam Eaton… again, 31 years old… RHP… 69-66, 4.86 over ten years… last two years in Philly 14-18, 6+ ERA… last good year 2005 with San Diego (10-5, 4.27).
Okay, I’m not thrilled with him, but let’s put him on our list.
So far… two pitchers on list:
Cliff Lee – Cleveland Indians
Adam Eaton – Baltimore Orioles (via Philadelphia)
Mack
