In one of those depth moves that gets little notice, the Mets added utility infielder Alex Cora to help strengthen their bench.
Cora, a capable fielder, can play both second base and shortstop with equal ability.
Although not a great hitter by any stretch, he did have a much improved OBP in 2008 compared with his career numbers.
I know Mets fans will be clamoring for Argenis Reyes, but it appears the Mets think the veteran Cora can help them more. In my opinion there will not be room for both on the team, so Reyes may not be brought back.

Since Cora is likely the high end of what Argenis Reyes could become (if he develops) I can't see anything wrong with this move. Plus, it gives them at least one option if Castillo stinks again.
