Jackie Robinson breaks the color barrier.
For the first time in the 20th century a black man took the field in a major league uniform as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Boston Braves 5-3 at Ebbets Field. Robinson’s went 0-4 that day but reached on an error and scored the go ahead run. His ability to overcome adversity changed the game forever and made baseball a truly national pastime. Due to his stellar play on the field Robinson earned Rookie of the Year honors in 1947 as he led the Dodgers to the National League pennant.

sorry, but I've had enough of the Jackie Robinson tributes...
and the rotunda should celebrate great Mets players.
J.R. was a great man and a great baseball player, but how about a few kudos for a guy who entered the majors, like a month later... Larry Doby?
Agree....I haven't been to Citi yet...surprised to hear there isn't more about the 69/86 teams and some of our great stars and even characters from the past (Yogi, Tug, Kingman, etc).
