Mike Jacobs DFA'd, Stoner...then Ike?

The Ike Davis era at Citi Field could be starting sooner then we think.

I personally love the move if it happens.  Ike is positively raking right now, and he has been for well over a year against every level of competition.

Ike can hit and he has the power to put it out of any field.  Moreover, first base has been an abysmal disappointment to this point and we all believe this move will certainly be an upgrade, both offensively and defensively.

If I were king for a day...

Ike comes up Monday, Chris Carter to first base at AAA, and fix the big league lineup.

The lineup:
  • Reyes
  • Pagan
  • Wright
  • Bay
  • Davis
  • Francoeur
  • Barajas
  • Castillo
For more on Ike, take a look at his minor league lifetime stats.

Say it with me, "I Like Ike!"

Keep ex-Met Lenny Harris in Your Thoughts and Prayers

Former Met and always fan favorite Lenny Harris had quadruple bypass surgery.

From mlb.com:
03/21/10 2:42 PM ET

PHOENIX -- Minor League instructor and former Dodgers player Lenny Harris, baseball's all-time pinch-hit leader, is in stable condition at a local hospital after undergoing emergency quadruple heart bypass surgery Saturday, a baseball source confirmed.

Harris was stricken with chest and arm pains Friday, but did not suffer a heart attack as there was no heart damage. In a Saturday operation, doctors found blockages in four arteries, with one 95 percent blocked.

Harris, 45, is in his second season as the senior hitting coach at the Dodgers' Camelback Ranch-Glendale complex, working mostly with Minor League players. Harris returned to the Dodgers after serving the 2008 season as the Major League hitting instructor of the Washington Nationals.

Harris had an 18-year Major League career that included stints with the Reds, Dodgers (1989-93), Mets, Rockies Diamondbacks, Brewers, Cubs and Marlins. He's the all-time pinch-hit leader with 212.

Five Rules on How to Not Sound Pathetic in 2010

It's been tough reading some of the crap being spewed about the Mets over these past few months, but there is a point when you can stop and smell the roses, or in this case the fresh green grass of spring training.

We've reached that point, so from here forward, try to obey these basic rules as we gear up for the season, or I will go positively Tim Foli on your ass!

  • Rule #1: When the Mets claim a minor leaguer you don't know much about, don't say, "oh great, another stupid move". At least try to realize small moves get made for a variety of reasons, and there is a business being run.
  • Rule #2: Every big name free agent was not destined be a Met, just like they weren't all destined to be a Yankee, Philly, Twin, or Blue Jay.
  • Rule #3: Quitting on your team and shouting it on every message board before the season starts is boorish behavior.
  • Rule #4: You used to enjoy baseball, then 2009 happened, we understand. We also understand you should effing get over it already.
  • Rule #5: It's OK to complain, it's not OK to complain about everything....we will make an exception to allow you to complain about this post...then you can please shut up.

Time to Stockpile

With the release of Matt Murton, and the trade of Billy Wagner, it's time for Omar to take an aggressive stance on stockpiling.

Bottom line is the Mets upper level minor league teams are paper thin talent-wise, and a former first rounder like Murton, who has hit at every level, should be picked up--and quickly.

Omar needs to shed any pretense he has of being a nice guy and go all out to find talent that can help the team--the mentality needs to change from "more slick fielding middle infielders or past their prime vets" to "more younger guys who can take a pitch and bang".

Get aggressive Omar
